Was It Mechanical Failure?

Or Was It Monsters???

Thanks to a schedule miscalculation, my vacation from the day job week before last coincided with Coil taking a weaving class.

Rather than spend my solo free time doomscrolling, I set off into hill country far from cellular towers.

Along the way, I stopped in scenic Point Pleasant, as I’d only ever been for the Mothman Festival.

Thanks to The Mothman Musueum and the Point Pleasant River Museum for tolerating my amatuer cinematography, and Ravenwood Castle for a great bowl of cabbage stew on the way home.

As a side note, despite being enormously popular, Keel’s book is . . . not good. Every witness undergoes a Fox New Grandpa evaluation (e.g., beautiful lithe divorcee, homely and of below average intelligence), the Men-in-Black are racist caricatures, and statements abound that manage to be both fundamentally incorrect and almost universally offensive (e.g., “The Indians must have known something about West Virginia. They avoided it.”).

The movie, by contrast, is far better than it has any right to be given the source material.

Love on Chilly This Week
