Modern Myth

In classical mythology, winter is caused by the harvest goddess Demeter. She is so destroyed by grief after Hades drags her daughter off to the underworld that she neglects her meteorological duties.

The modern interpretations of the myth happily give more agency to Persephone, positioning her less as victim than as a coequal ruler in an enthusiastic elopement.

What daughter hasn’t used the excuse of a partner to skip a visit home once in a while.

Whatever her motivations, and as much as we enjoy winter, we are pleased when the Olympian families are happy and spring returns.

To celebrate, we are pleased to announce the return of several seasonal scents by Old Soul Artisan.

Not only are they some of our favorites, but they give us an excuse to indulge our weakness for spring flowers and succulent fruit.

Thanks to the Cincinnati Zoo and the town of Vevay for these particular blooms.
