Green City Wars

One of our favorite books of the year is the incredible “Green City Wars” by Adrian Tchaichovksy, published by Tor.

It’s set in a near future human utopia made possible by the labor of genetically engineered intelligent animals.

Those creatures have built a hidden world complete with crime, camaraderie, science, and perhaps, revolution.

The book is half profound musing on the tension between class consciousness and factionalism, and half delightful romp of little critters wearing adorable outfits and trading favors for buttons.

There is a raccoon private detective with a grumpy turtle boss, a pigeon reporter, a stoat femme fatale, a cyborg fox, NIMHesque rodent scientists, amphibian anarchists, and squirrel armies.

Oh, there is also a cat mob enforcer with rodent cultists. (Do not tell your cat about the cultists or they’ll never stop asking for their own.)

Buy a copy, it will make you appreciate your familiar even more.
